The New Voltaire was conceived as a continuation of its original identity, as a metaphor of the electric substation that it was: a place that canalizes energies, that condenses them and that spreads them out.
It will be the place that brings together the seventh art and new writing and image spreading techniques, for audiences of diverse geographical and cultural backgrounds.
The ambition of the New Voltaire is to allow a mutual enrichment of the public via a multidisciplinary logic favoring exchanges.
We are convinced that through its actions focused on local life, The New Voltaire will become the driving force of the social and cultural life of its district.
To make the New Voltaire a local cinema we must offer both leisure and culture, and make it a structuring element of the city center.
The restaurant will participate in making the New Voltaire a meeting and / or relaxation place.
The whole project was conceived around four functional questions: seeing / understanding / making / meeting, which can be found in the different spaces conceived around the four cinema rooms:
• a large lobby with a restaurant (Le Servan) and an Agora area open to all,
• a mezzanine space (le Salon perché)
• a school of audiovisual writing (« l’Ecole Internationale des Nouvelles Ecritures »),
• offices and a large vegetated terrace.
